Koh Samui

Koh Samui

Where did we stay?

We stayed at Akwa guesthouse, the accomadation was nice but the location was a bit dissapointing as we had to walk 10/15min to get to the beach. The hotel staff were very friendly and the accomadation was reccomended on the lonely planned guide. For 700 baht per person for 2 nights (7 pounds a night!) we couldnt complain.

How long?

2 nights, we didnt have long in Koh Samui as we arrived 7pm Saturday night and left 6am Monday morning.

What did we do?

On Saturday night we arrived late so we checked in and decided to go explore the area. We ended up getting completely lost so we finally found a taxi and got taken to Ark Bar, we ate food out, the curry was amazing. Then walked back on the beach to our hotel as we were so tired after travling 36 hours to get hear. The next day we got up 11am and headed to the beach. We sunbathed for a few hours then had a walk to find a nice place for lunch. Then went for a bit of shopping, we got a beach bag and some sunhats. As we forgot to bring suncream with us we decieded to have a massage on the beach. We both got 1 hour thai massages, they were so good. Then went back to our accomadation to get ready for the night. We wanted to go see Big Buddah beach so we got a taxi there and had food and cocktails at that beach. It was a lot quiter than Chewang beach there was barely anyone there.  We couldnt go up to the temple as we fogot to cover out arms and knees so we took photos from the bottom.

Budget

200 baht for a taxi from the ferry to our accomadation
100 baht for a taxi to Ark bar as we got lost on out walk
150 baht for food, I had Thai red curry and a coke
350 baht a night for the accomadation

100 baht for dinner - chicken cocconut soup
250 baht  for my new monster sunhat
20 baht for street pineapple
300 baht return taxi to Big Buddah beach
70 baht for food - pad thai and water
450 baht for a taxi and ferry to Koh Phangan

Thailand

Thailand was amazing. I spent 6 weeks hear this summer and  I visited Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Sangkhlaburi and Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket and Koh Chang.

The whole month was filled with so many different once in a lifetime opportunities that I will never forget. I was playing with baby tigers, visiting temples, volunteering in a school, swimming with elephants, meditating with monks, trekking through a jungle, full moon party’s and making lifelong friends.

Bangkok was crazy, I spent my 1st and last 2 nights hear on Koh San Road. The start of the trip I shopped at the markers and ate amazing food and got to know my group, the last few nights me and my friend Laura visited shopping malls, visited Sky bar and sunbathed on our roof top of our hotel! The nightlife was great, buckets were the best in Thailand and laughing gas was so cheep!
Sangkhlaburi was literally in the middle of nowhere. Its such a small town but it has everything you need such as a 711, cute coffee shops, relaxed bars, friendly locals and a post office. I spent 10 nights hear whilst I was volunteering in a small thai school. Volunteering was amazing, in the morning I was playing with the children giving them much needed attention and in the afternoon whilst they were sleeping I was mixing cement to build them a path. It was also in Sangkhaburi when I completed my 10K jungle trek. I camped out in the jungle in a locals tree house,  it was pretty cool. We got given dinner and the locals had a slush machine and were making us vodka slushes to drink before we went to bed!

Koh Phangan was paradise, after spending 3 weeks traveling now was time to relax and party. Out hotel was away from Had Rinn beach so we basically had the whole beach to ourselves. It was unreal, it was completely untouched. I went to the half moon party & full moon party, both were crazy. Full moon was so busy you could barely move on the beach, and there was a sleeping area for those that get a bit to drunk! Koh Phangan was where me and Laura left the group to continue traveling and everyone else headed home!

Koh Samui won the best nightlife in Thailand. We stayed at Ark bar which was amazing, there was 3 pools and party’s everyday, we were right in the middle of everything & right on the beach. The night life was just crazy, there is no other way to describe it! Bar Ice is a must in Koh Samui, its the best ice bar in Thailand!

Phi Phi Island was cute, there are no cars on this island and you walk everywhere. The view from the viewpoint is amazing, you can see the whole island, its worth the trek up there. The ‘beach’ beach was a bit overcrowd but still lovely, even though I haven’t seen the movie yet!

Koh Chang was definitely worth the 16 hours of traveling. This is where we got to go swimming with elephants. This was truly a highlight of my time in Thailand and I was definitely the best way to spend out last day on the islands. Koh Chang is more of a relaxed island, so we drank cocktails (banana & Malibu our fav) on the beach and watched the fire-show before heading to bed.
